A Discovery Flight is an introductory flying lesson where you get to sit in the pilot’s seat of a real airplane with a Certified Flight Instructor. You’ll take the controls and experience what it’s like to fly an aircraft.

How long is a Discovery Flight?

Your Discovery Flight lasts about one hour of flying time, plus pre-flight briefing and orientation with your instructor. Plan for around 90 minutes total at the airport.

Do I actually get to fly the airplane?

Yes! Under the guidance of your instructor, you’ll take the controls and perform basic maneuvers. Don’t worry—your instructor will be with you every step of the way.

Can I bring a passenger?

Yes—if you choose the Cessna 172 Discovery Flight, you can bring along one guest (subject to weight and balance restrictions). The Cessna 150 is a two-seat aircraft, so only the instructor and student can fly.

Is this just a joy ride, or does it count toward flight training?

Your Discovery Flight is a real lesson. You’ll receive a pilot logbook with your first flight entry signed by your instructor. If you continue flight training, this time counts toward the hours required for your pilot’s license.
